NORTHERN Region Soccer League log leaders, Simba Bhora, dominate the division’s awards for August, with top striker, Tinashe Balakasi, bagging two after a memorable month for the lanky forward.
Balakasi has been crowned the Breakfront Car Hire and Travel Player of the Month, and was also the leading scorer during the month, after banging in seven goals, to scoop the Top Goal Scorer award, which is sponsored by Tempo Tyre Distributors.
For his efforts, Balakasi took home a combined sum of US$400.
The bustling striker now holds the record of the most goals scored in the Northern Region Division One League, with a tally of 27.
Kasimero Chimbadzwa’s 22 goals in 2014, was the league’s top mark prior to Balakasi’s exploits.
Simba Bhora gaffer, Arthur Tutani, also won the M&J Coach of the Month award, with a prize money of US$200, after guiding the Shamva-based side to some crucial results.
Tutani also picked up a vital draw at title-chasing Golden Eagles, early this month.
Simba Bhora have a four-point lead over second-placed Herentals in the Ruyamuro Northern Region Division One race, which enters the homestretch this weekend.
They have 63 points from 28 games, while Herentals U20 have 59, and Golden Eagles are a distant third with 54 points.
Simba Bhora host CUMA Academy at Wadzanai on Saturday, while Herentals U20 have a potential banana-skin tie against Black Mambas at Morris Depot.
