SIMBA Bhora moved within a point of leaders Herentals at the summit of the ZIFA Northern Region Division One Soccer League standings following a 1-0 win over Come Again at Rimuka.
Pacesetters, Herentals Under-20, were held to a surprise 1 all draw by Harare City Cubs.
The Cubs ended the Young Students’ five game winning streak.
Gilbert Mushangazhike suffered his first defeat since he took charge of Golden Eagles.
A surprise 1-2 loss to PAM FC means Mushangazhike’s men remain four points off top spot.
Simbarashe Maramwidze’s ninth minute strike, his first of the season, handed Simba Bhora maximum points.
Club owner, Simba “Buju” Ndoro had challenged his men to regain the touch they showed in the first half of the season after they encountered a number of hurdles.
He will certainly be pleased with the discipline they showed at Rimuka yesterday.
It was a tightly-contested fixture as both sides went toe-to-toe in search of a positive result.
Come Again were twice denied by the crossbar.
“I’m happy with the goal, it was my first for the team and I hope it is the first of many to come,” said Maramwidze.
“This win really means a lot and it has boosted our chances of achieving our goal, which is to win the championship.
“I want to give credit to my teammates for the team spirit which they are showing, we still have more games to play and we just need to take the game-by-game approach, throughout the season.”
Simba Chinani is also enjoying a fine run and he has so far managed three clean sheets on the bounce.
Trojan Stars redeemed themselves from their 4-0 loss against Simba with a 1-0 victory over a resilient Chegutu Pirates side.
