SIMBA Bhora survived a scare to keep their 100 percent home record intact in the ZIFA Northern Region Division One Soccer League as they salvaged a 1-0 victory over Ngezi Platinum Under-19.

Late substitute, Dean Chunga, enjoyed a moment of redemption in the dying minutes for the Shamva side at Wadzanai.

Makwiro, as they are affectionately known, had the lion’s share of possession but struggled to get the breakthrough Both sides had penalty appeals rejected by the referee.

Ngezi ‘keeper, Biggie Tamera, was at his best as he delivered a man-of-the-match performance with fine saves to keep Simba at bay.

But, as true title contenders, the Arthur “Tuts” Tutani’s troops, struck when it mattered to keep their championship hopes alive.

“It was a great game of football, I want to give credit to the boys for fighting bravely for the three points,” said Tutani.

“It wasn’t an easy fixture considering that we drew 3-3 with the same team in the first round of the season at their turf.

“They came with confidence, they gave us a good run for our money and with the energy they showed, it made us dig deep into our pockets.”

He heaped praise on Chunga for the magical moment.

Chunga had last featured for Simba in their first round match against Banket United, also as a substitute. “I was really pleased with him, you know football is a game of grabbing the opportunity and showing what you can do when you get the chance,” he said.

“I’m happy, he stood up for the team when we needed him the most, and overall, it was a collective effort and credit should be also given to everyone, including the fans, who pushed the boys to their limits.

“The victory was all we wanted and I just hope the boys will keep their eyes on the prize in the remaining games because we still have a long way to go before the season ends.”
