Gunslinger Balakasi wants to start with a bang

SIMBA Bhora striker, Tinashe Balakasi, says he is keen to start the second half of the ZIFA Northern Region Division One Soccer League with a bang.

They are slated for a date against Stewart Murisa’s Banket United at Wadzanai tomorrow.

The ruthless gunslinger is the league’s leading scorer after netting 18 times in 16 assignments.

He fits well in the description of a late bloomer.

The forward is proving to be a real big deal at Simba Bhora after largely average spells at CAPS United, Harare City and Mushowani Stars.

The club utilised the mid-season break by acquiring the services of the CAPS United duo of ‘keeper Simbarashe Chinani and Ronald Chitiyo.

“We know our targets, everyone at the club knows what we are here for and it means we have to work extra hard to achieve our goal of winning the championship,” said Balakasi.

“We are preparing well for our weekend’s game, it’s not an easy assignment, Banket FC are perennial fighters and they are capable of causing an upset if we apply the wrong approach.

“I’m grateful to God that I did well in the first round but it’s now all history, I really need to reestablish myself and play with more hunger to help the team.

“At the end of the day, it’s not about me but it’s about the badge and the fans we are representing.”

Simba Bhora are leading the pack with 36 points, ahead of major rivals Golden Eagles, with 35 points, and Herentals Under-20, who have amassed 34

Chinani, who is set to make his debut at the weekend, told H-Metro he was ready for the task.

“I’m up for the challenge, I did not join Simba Bhora for other reasons besides winning the championship,” said Chinani.

“We are ready for the match, whoever get chosen to play, he knows what is needed, we are now in the final round, we can’t afford to drop points.

“I think I have settled well, and the environment is very conducive for each and every player to adapt quickly.”

The last time the two sides met, Paul “Popopo” Chimalizeni, was in charge of Banket United.

He has since joined Simba Bhora as an assistant to Arthur “Tuts” Tutani.

Stewart “Shutto” Murisa, who replaced Chimalizeni, will be marking his first match in the toughest way possible.
